hi from a new place
If you're reading this, it means at some point you signed up for my newsletter (via substack or before that on tiny letter). After a year+ of not writing my newsletter on substack, I'm letting you know my mailing list is now over here on ghost. No ethical consumption in capitalism obvs, but for several reasons related to ethics & capitalism, this feels like the better platform for me. I started building this list many years ago (2017?) so if you no longer want to get emails from me, I get it, please unsubscribe. Thanks for being here in the first place, for however long is right.
One reason I stopped writing my newsletter is because I've been working on a memoir for the last four years and, for the last two years, have been in full-on monstrous beastly writing mode (possibly my favorite state of self). This particular book writing process did not leave me with any leftover creative energy for word stuff. The good news, though, is a) I finished the book! and b) I did have the creative energy to do other stuff.
The (tentative) title of my memoir is ANYTHING TO NOT STOP and it will be published by Flatiron in (I think) April of 2027. I'll be sharing a lot about this book over the next year, so for now I'll just say that I am proud of her – she is a real creative and personal leap for me (no research! just my story!), she expanded and deepened my capacity for feeling and holding emotion, generally rewired by brain. I'm a different person for writing it (currently trying to get acquainted with details of who that woman is) and I'm forever grateful that I was ignorant (or in denial) of the level of personal excavation necessary to write a memoir before I did. Sh*t is not easy and I possess a renewed respect for the genre and those who write it.
Before I sign off, here's some of the stuff I've been making with my hands lately for fun. I recently told someone that "I'm a real whore for hobbies," which helped me understand how much doing "other" creative work, without any hope of being good at a task or intention of doing anything specific with the made object, is essential to being a writer, being me. I'm interested in what creative projects (defined VERY broadly) are important to you.

I really want to know and see what you're making! I don't know if you can post pictures in the comments or reply or how this all works yet, but feel free to send me pictures! I will reply only enthusiastically and supportively!
